What We Do

Our Pipeline System

Access Pipeline currently operates two pipeline systems in Alberta:

  • A 16-inch, 345-kilometre line that originates in Edmonton and delivers diluent to steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAG-D) operations near Conklin; and
  • A 24-inch, 295-kilometre line that meets a 30-inch, 50-kilometre line that transports diluted bitumen (dilbit or Bitumen Blend) from Conklin to Edmonton, where the product meets with existing pipeline systems to be sent further downstream to markets.

A 42-inch, 300-kilometre line, called the Northeast Expansion (NEX), which will transport Blend from Conklin to Redwater is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in 2014. At initial capacity, NEX will transport 350,000 barrels of Bitumen Blend a day. For more information on NEX, visit our project website.
